A few weeks ago, I kicked off my 2019 wedding season. This year is going to be so amazing and I’m so excited to be working with some INCREDIBLE clients! In my excitement (impatience?) for wedding season, I decided to make some predictions about what I think I’m in for when it comes to 2019 wedding trends! Here’s a few of my thoughts (and wishes!):
A return to classic styles.
Though more and more couples are moving away from old-school wedding traditions, 2019 weddings will see a resurgence of a classic look and feel. The traditional ballroom tablescape reception look is becoming increasingly popular even though traditional ballrooms are not! You can probably expect to see full place settings with elegant candlesticks and stemware. Brides will also return to more traditional styles for their dress. Think lace, velvet, simplistic designs. Seriously can’t wait to see this one!
Royal-wedding inspired decor & dresses.
Thanks to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s fairytale royal wedding, 2019 weddings will feature some of the most talked about details from their big day. You might remember that initial reactions to Meghan’s ceremony dress of choice were less than stellar with people comparing it to Kate’s and calling it “too understated.” But it seems that 2019 brides are realizing that Meghan’s dress was drop-dead gorgeous because of its simplicity. I’m excited to see a return to minimalistic styles. Also, two more things: tiaras and cathedral veils (helloooo #princessvibes).
Dramatic, one-of-a-kind floral arrangements.
Flowers, flowers, and more flowers! You can expect to see some remarkable flower installations and other extravagant floral designs. Florists will be able to let their imaginations run wild because this year, I anticipate brides will be looking for bold florals: floral jewelry, hanging arrangements, flower walls, and more! I’m also expecting to see even more unique greenery included into some floral arrangements – grasses and leaves and such, to give bouquets a more boho look.
Outdoor ceremonies in the round.
Over the past few years, couples and their planners have worked to bring the outside in through the use of lush greenery and other natural elements to spruce up a venue. But this year, I’m hoping to see more of the opposite: bringing the inside OUT! Most couples love the idea of hosting an outdoor wedding; outdoor ceremonies are becoming more commonplace, with chairs and other furniture set up in unique ways (such as in a circle around the couple) for more intimate ceremonies. *I even just photographed my first outdoor Catholic ceremony!* I’m hoping to see more and more furniture and other common indoor pieces brought out for guests to enjoy the great outdoors.
Extravagant cake designs.
Will this be the year for cake artists to get flamboyant? I think so. In recent wedding seasons, wedding professionals have noticed a shift toward non-traditional desserts, such as cupcakes, donuts, or DIY dessert bars. But it seems like 2019 couples are looking for cakes that are more a work of art. You can expect to see some unique shapes, vibrant colors, bold textures, and bespoke details.
So there you have it! My hot take on 2019’s biggest wedding trends! Maybe we should organize a game of wedding bingo… first person to spot each of these trends in my Instagram feed gets a special gift from me. What do you think?
